The Minister for Home and Territories, Mr Abbott, chartered the plane, The Canberra, in 1929 to investigate settlement of grassland areas of Central and Northern Australia. It was the first recorded long distance flight by a minister of the crown. The plane left Mascot on the 12th of June on its five thousand one hundred and fifty mile flight.
